Drama in Education

Educational drama as a subject in its own right will be just one of the specialisms that will be explored as part of the course that Kindergarten’s can brand their offer to parents with. Drama methodology, however, will be at the heart of the way that the trainees will be taught to enrolled Principals. Drama is a powerful tool for learning because it is experiential. We learn by doing, by being ‘in it’. Narrative thinking compliments logico-mathematical thinking. This makes the most complex abstract theory concrete and practical because learning is situated. Drama is the imagination in action, by stimulating the imagination we release the creativity inside all of us.

What form will this take? The design of the course will incorporate as much framed and task based workshop activity as possible using simulation games and role play alongside other drama methods. For example, rather than simply talk about a concept or content, we can build a simulation exercise though a ‘real life’ problems that need to be resolved with participants in role as decision maker, with the task of having to resolve the problem effectively and efficiently. Experiencing from the inside through this kind of framed activity leads to more profound insights and makes refection from outside more precise and impactful. What better way to approach child or managerial psychology than applying your understanding through framed role play? This approach can be extended further to other inputs on the course. We are committed to making the course full of wonder and an enjoyable experience as a way of embedding theory in practice in a holistic approach to learning.
