Center Information
With nearly 30 years’ experience in international drama in education and over ten years location education practice in China, Drama Rainbow initiated the “Teachers’ Development Plan” since 2012, in order to the new generation of Drama in Education professionals and the frontier drama teachers. This program aims to empower the drama teachers with independent thinking, creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, self-expression, social development, and drama skills, to make them find a way to explore the best methods in drama in education teaching and feel encouraged to bring in creativity and imagination in the teaching.
The training center employs drama as the important way of realizing such novel teaching goals, which has been a progressive and advanced tool since early 20th century, and gradually became a compulsory method in the western teaching guidelines in the 50s and 60s. The creativity of this method is to put the students into the training center, and the teachers will no longer inject the pre-designed coursework to the students, instead, the students will be immersed in an open but disciplined environment, taking the initiatives to find the content to be focused on, to become the master of their own studies under the instruction and encouragement of the teachers.
Since 2015, Drama Rainbow collaborated with the International Education and Culture Institute to start the “Drama in Education Summer School” to systematically teach this method. A lot of teachers and artists are well enlightened. In such once in a year summer school, self-recognition and social development awareness are well-inspected, combining with a large amount of teaching practice, interactive teaching outlines, in-depth drama involvement, and the workshops hosted by both domestic and foreign experts, this drama in education for teachers’ training has become the gold standard in Mainland China.
Teachers’ development center developed a series of “Creativity Coursework” in 2013, which targets the drama education for kindergarten and elementary school kids. The in house training program, “To Create”, not only provides a way to equipment teachers with the ability to “positively study”, but also provide them with high-quality text book, stories for teaching, and the drama in education teaching theory, which are all well incorporated into the cross-disciplinary teaching dramas. This course for teachers training and drama in education teaching has been practicing in kindergartens and elementary schools in Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Nanjing. The Affiliated Kindergarten of Children Center of China has been awarded “Excellent Kindergarten of Beijing” with the help of the introduction of this course.
In 2016, the training center has developed a series of courses and training programs for teachers in kindergartens and elementary schools, in order to achieve the “Guidance for the Study and Development of Children of 3-6 Years Old” through drama in education. This course was written by Drama Rainbow’s specialist and consultant, Prof. Carmel O’Sullivan, the Chair of the Department of Education from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. This course has been successfully promoted in Beijing University, Beijing Normal University, The Normal University of Eastern China, and the Korea University. The training for “Drama in Education: Instructions for Course Plan and Practice ” was also established in 2017, which has been witnessed more than 500 Certificates of Compliment awarded by the Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.
